In the past couple weeks, Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 has been featured on episodes of Monday Night Raw. I’m not referring to a commercial or a quick mention by WWE commentators between matches. SvR 2011 was given around 2-3 minutes of on-air time during Raw. Bobb’e J. Thompson, who plays PSP spokesperson Marcus Rivers played the PS3 version of SvR on air, while The Miz revealed his own box art following the loss of Team Raw at the hands of Team Smackdown. This is just the beginning of THQ’s cross-media strategy with the WWE.
We can expect to see SvR 2011 incorporated into more WWE events and products. THQ will set up kiosks at 40 live WWE events so fans can experience (and hopefully buy) SvR 2011 and WWE All Stars. The kiosks will last until April 16, 2011. WWE All Stars is scheduled for release on March 29, 2011 for PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360 and Wii.
THQ’s will also sponsor WWE pay-per-view events and have a presence overseas when WWE games release there. Under this new marketing agreement, THQ will promote its WWE games in 15-20 WWE DVDs, and will be featured on WWE.com throughout the year.
