Last week, WWE.com posted an article calling for the return of the Women's Tag Team Titles leading to speculation from many that the company was considering bringing back the belts as part of the current Divas roster (the belts were introduced in 1983, and held by famous female tag teams like the Glamour Girls and Jumping Bomb Angels, but had been dropped by the end of the decade).
Notably, WWE's rival TNA have their own women's tag belts, the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, currently held by Gail Kim and Madison Rayne after defeating Brooke Tessmacher and Tara in November. With the (relative) success the tag titles have had there, many have encouraged WWE to do the same in their women's division.
In this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that there had indeed been talks within WWE about bringing back the belts, but ultimately the company decided against it. It was also noted by Meltzer that if the tag belts had been brought back it would have been as a vehicle for the Bella Twins (currently seen on Raw romancing former champion Alberto Del Rio), rather than heel team Beth Phoenix and Natalya:
