It was officially announced that Melina was injured on December 29, 2009 (WWE Divas Champion Melina Perez injured at a house show). The injury is indeed a torn ACL, as early reports indicated. Being that she will be out of action for 6 months, the title was vacated, and a eight-woman tournament to crown a new champion was announced.
Marsye defeated Brie Bella in a first round tournament match, to advance to the semi-finals. Towards the end of the match, Nikkie switched places with Brie; however, the switch was to no avail, as Maryse saw the switch, and wasted no time in hitting her Snap DDT for the win.These two failed to deliver a passable match, which was undoubtedly a bad start to the tournament.
